🇬🇧 Description: This work proposes a reinterpretation of the sunflower motif, not as an observation of reality, but as a transformation of pictorial language itself. The bouquet, set within a unified yellow space, is composed of simplified forms in which the flowers become signs, at times resembling faces or masks.
The work engages in an implicit dialogue with Vincent van Gogh, from whom it retains not a naturalistic approach but an expressive intensity. Where Van Gogh explores materiality and the living, Gabriel shifts towards a graphic writing: painting becomes line, structure, and symbol.
Created as part of the After Masters series, this piece brings together multiple influences from modern art history — from Henri Matisse to Pablo Picasso, through to Keith Haring — all integrated into a personal visual language in formation.
Through this image, 137 years after the Sunflowers of Vincent van Gogh, the motif becomes a space of circulation between eras: no longer a representation of nature, but a reinvention of its forms within a contemporary field, where drawing operates as thought in action.
