🇮🇹 Descrizione: Questo disegno nasce da un esercizio di attivazione stilistica: una natura morta fissa — composta da una piccola pianta in vaso e da una statua africana del “pensatore” — doveva essere reinterpretata nel linguaggio di diversi artisti. Al momento dell’enunciazione del nome, GABRIEL disponeva di un massimo di due minuti per produrre l’immagine.

Ispirato all’universo visivo di Jean-Michel Basquiat, il disegno traduce la natura morta attraverso una linea nervosa, immediata, quasi automatica. Le forme sono ridotte a simboli essenziali: la corona, il volto schematico, i segni ripetuti, le campiture tratteggiate.

Il tratto rapido e frammentato evoca l’energia primitiva e la dimensione neo-espressionista tipica di Basquiat. Il fondo non è neutro ma attivato da segni compulsivi che creano tensione visiva.

La contrainte temporale diventa parte integrante dell’opera: l’esercizio si trasforma in gesto performativo. GABRIEL non copia Basquiat; ne attiva l’urgenza grafica e la forza simbolica.

🇬🇧 Description: This drawing originates from a stylistic activation exercise: a fixed still life — composed of a small potted palm-like plant and an African “thinker” statue — had to be reinterpreted in the visual language of different artists. Upon hearing the artist’s name, GABRIEL had a maximum of two minutes to produce the image.

Inspired by the visual universe of Jean-Michel Basquiat, the still life is translated through a nervous, immediate, almost automatic line. Forms are reduced to essential symbols: the crown, the schematic face, repeated marks, and scribbled fields.

The rapid, fragmented stroke evokes the raw energy and neo-expressionist intensity associated with Basquiat. The background is activated rather than neutral, filled with compulsive markings that generate visual tension.

The time constraint becomes integral to the artwork itself, transforming the exercise into a performative act. GABRIEL does not imitate Basquiat; he activates the artist’s urgency, graphic syntax, and symbolic force.
