🇺🇸 Description: In collaboration with BANPSY [FRED], this work marks the first stencil piece by the young artist GABRIEL, aged 14. It features a contemporary media figure whose silhouette emerges accidentally during the stencil process or spray gesture, revealing a recognizable form without having been initially premeditated.
Deprived of a face, the figure stands within a neutral space, suspended in a frozen moment. His arm, extended toward a heart in the colors of the American flag—both an affective motif and a wounded symbol—creates a perceptible tension. The gesture is fixed within an ambiguous space-time: at once an attempt to reach toward the balloon and a rejection through an authoritative motion, suggesting an unstable in-between of desire and power.
Through this tension, the work questions the relationships between emotional projection onto symbols, the construction of public figures, and mechanisms of power. The heart, marked by drips, appears as a fragile symbol, while the figure itself dissolves within its status as both icon and authority.
The use of stencil, spray, and paint situates the work within an economy of means characteristic of contemporary practices rooted in urban space, while leaving room for accident, emergence, and unpredictability as constitutive elements of the composition, echoing the dynamics of appearance, rupture, and instability inherent to the political sphere.
Far from any explicit narrative, the image functions as a suspended device: it does not depict an event, but rather a moment of indecision in which the gesture, still open, leaves the responsibility of interpretation to the viewer.
